General Notes (Wife)
Montgomery: The following is from a newpaper clipping dated 17 Jan 1904:
Mailes-Grainger
Louis Mailes and Miss Cora Grainger were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents, I.L. Grainger and wife on Swar's Prairie, Sunday, Rev. Lundey officiating. After the wedding ceremony, a grand dinner was served to the following guests: Mrs. A.H. Mailes, Misses Belle Williams, Sadie Williams, Nannie Lankford, Ada Buzzard, Leona Hopper, Nancy Kellhoffer, Bertha and Leah Norris, Clara Thompson and Ethel Mitchell. Messers Jack Hopper, Kick Kellhoffer, Norman Lankford, Edward Winn, Lee Grainger, Luther Moore and Orville Grainger.
Mr. and Mrs. Mailes were the recipients of a number of handsome presents. they will go to housekeeping in about two weeks. the Hustler extends congratulations and wishes them a happy and prosperous journey through life.
The following was on the same page as the Wedding Announcement:
Edgar A. Guest, the poet of the People: Golden Wedding:
'After fifty years,' said he, 'We no longer disagree. I leave everything to her. What she chooses, I prefer. Yes or No; of no it be, No is quite okay with me.'
'After fifty years,' said she, 'Almost trined, I'd say is he. Once we argued years ago over yes and over no. Now that he agrees with me, We no longer disagree'.
Golden Wedding! Few there are Arm in arm to walk so far. Share together smiles and tears. All the cares of fifty years. All life holds of good and ill, And have eyes that twinkle still.
Plain it is that loves relies On that twinkle in the eyes, and the humor good to bear, Gracefully life's wear and tear. Yes and no. Could none agree, Golden Weddings wouldn't be.
