Individual note: BIO: Uncle Floyd and Aunt Ethel lived at Washington College, TN about 30 miles from our home in Piney Flats. We always looked forward to visiting them but 30 miles was 30 miles in those days, so it was a treat when we did get to go. We were 1st cousins on the Rutledge side and 2nd cousins on the Gross side so we always felt close to them. They had a creek running in front of their house and when we were down there we could play for hours in the water. Seems like we always got leeches but we always went back into the water. Just before we moved to California, we went down there and it came a big pour of rain and the whole hollow filled with water. All of the younger ones were happy because we thought we would get to spend the night, but the water ran off in about an hour and we went home. Aunt Ethel died soon after we came to California in 1945 and Uncle Floyd went to live with his daughter so the place was never the same again.
