General Notes (Husband)
"Was a planter in Barnwell County, and apparently a major in the state militia, as he was referred to with that rank in the Charleston newspapers. In 1800 he was elected to the office of Ordinary (Probate Judge) by the Legislature. He married in Charles. Had eight children." "Major, or Judge, Hagood later moved to Hancock County, Georgia, where he died. In his will of February 1824, he mentions a second wife, by whom he seems to have had no children. He had received from her a very considerable property in the way of land and slaves, as a marriage settlement, and upon his death it all reverted to her." General Notes (Wife)
From newspaper clipping, November 6, 1922 (paper unnamed): "Sleeping in a narrow cell in West View cemetery, covered with a profusion of beautiful flowers, lies the body of Mrs. Harry C. Hagood, but her immortal soul purified and glorified through the precious blood of Jesus, is now resting in the paradise of God with other loved ones gone before, where she will await the coming of others. Mrs. Hagood, as Miss Viola Runion, has lived in Easley all her life, and was 42 years old. She married Mr. Harry C. Hagood about twenty-one years ago. She was very popular and loved by all who knew her for her many beautiful traits of character. She had long been a member of the Presbyterian church. She loved her church and her Saviour; was devoted to her husband her only son, Jack. She died at her home on Pickens Street on Monday at noon, 6th inst., and her body was laid to rest on the 7th inst., after short funeral services, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Frank D. Hunt, assisted by Rev. J. Paul Patton, of the Methodist church. Mr. Hagood and son, with the entire family, have the sympathy of our community. Sleep on, beloved, sleep, and take Thy rest. Lay down Thy head upon Thy Saviour's breast; We loved Thee well, but Jesus loved Thee best Good night, good night, sleep on."
From "Presbyterian Women of South Carolina", edited by Margaret A. Gist, published by Woman's Auxiliary of the Synod of South Carolina, copyright 1929. (About Ladies Aid Society at Easley Presbyterian Church, Easley, SC) "The minutes of the war year (1918), kept by Mrs. H.C. Hagood, frequently tell of busy housewives sending dues for six months at a time. Flowers were placed in the church every Sunday. No bazaars were held this year, each member gave free will contributions. Goods were sent to Thornwell Orphanage. Three French orphans were supported. No refreshments were served at meetings during the war."

General Notes for Child William Earl Hagood
"William Earle Hagood, familiarly known to all as "Jack," died last Saturday at St. Francis hospital in Greenville after an illness of ten days. He had been in declining health for about three years, but it was not until last week that his condition became serious. He was in his 37th year." "He had engaged in the automobile business in Easley for several years and at the time of his death was operating the Jack Hagood company, local Buick agency, which he established. Before entering the automobile business, he was employed for a time in the Glenwood Mill office." "Jack came from one of the pioneer families of Easley and Pickens county. He was the son of the late Hal C. Hagood and Viola Runnion Hagood and was the grandson of the late W.M. Hagood, Sr., founder of Glenwood mills. Outside of the time spent away at school he had lived his entire life in Easley." "He received his education at Easley high school, Carolina Military academy at Hendersonville, N.C., and Wofford college. While in high school he was a member of the state championship track team and was outstanding in this sport. His interest in sports continued after he entered business in Easley, and he was one of those who were instrumental in establishing football as a sport in the local high school." "He early established himself in the religious, business and civic life of the city. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the Easley Rotary club.: "Jack is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Sitton Hagood; one son, Hal Hagood; one daughter, Jane Hagood; three aunts, Mrs. Gertrude Mathews, Mrs. Edgar Martin, all of Easley, and Mrs. E.H. Shanklin of Greer; and one uncle, W.M. Hagood of Easley." "Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 at the late residence on West Main street. Rev. C. G. Lynch officiated, assisted by Rev. R.L. Holyroyd of Anderson, and interment was in the family plot at Westview Cemetery. Many beautiful floral offerings filled the home and a host of friends paid last tribute to one of Easley's most popular citizens." "The following served as pallbearers: B.F. Hagood, Sydney Bruce, Hagood Bruce, Dr. R.A. Blakey, J. Graham Hayes and D.R. Spearman." Source: Newspaper article assumed to be the Easley Progress, not dated.
