Michael Morse was a farmer. By 1855 he had lived in Ch e m u n g for 12 years. Before that the family lived in Har mo n y T wp ., Susquehanna Co., PA, the home of his wife u s f ami ly.
In 1852 he bought land (fhl film #846469, Chemung La n d R e c ords 21:82); in 1856 he deeded the property to h i s olde s t d aughter, Lucy (30:211), and in 1858 Lucy an d T ryal se l l th e property, probably to follow him to I llin ois. Th e d eed es tablishes that Tryal is the wife o f Mich ael B. M orse , and t hat Lucy is his daughter. In J une o f 1860 a te rribl e tornad o ripped through the Ambo y are a directly th roug h the Mors e farm. Michael was bad ly inj ured as was hi s dau ghter, Emma , and two young son s. Hi s wife, Tryal die d of h er injurie s and Emma passe d awa y two weeks later.
