General Notes (Husband)



 Jack Stahl and Mary Hannan were married about 1913. Lorrai ne was their only child. Mary Hannan Stahl contracted tuber culosis, and had to live at a country place called Hillto p near New York City. Mary died about 1921, when Lorraine w as six years old.

General Notes for Child Lorraine Evelyn Stahl



 Lorraine's mother developed tuberculosis, and had to mov e to a place in the country (probably a sanitarium) calle d Hilltop.  She died when Lorraine was about six. At that t ime, Lorraine was sent to live with her aunt, May Stahl Hil l. May's husband George was a contractor or architect, an d an alderman or city councilman in White Plains. They rais ed Lorraine with their daughters Leila and Emmarie in Whit e Plains until Jack married again in about 1927 to Estell e ("Toots"), a schoolteacher. Lorraine moved to Wakefield t o live with them. Jack worked with his father and brother i n the moving and storage business ("John Stahl & Sons"). Ja ck was an avid boatman and fisherman, and worked on and aro und boats in New York. He eventually captained a sportfishi ng boat owned by Jack Wrather, owner of Lassie. Lorraine gr aduated from Evander Childs High School and Southern Semina ry. She was working for an insurance company in New York fo r Teddy Davidge when his cousin, James A. Hayne, came to Ne w York for a surgical residency at Belleview. Teddy fixed h im up with Lorraine, and they were married three months lat er. (Larry told me all of this when I started this genealogy).
