He is sometimes claimed to be father of John Harington, husbandof Ann or Elizabeth Clinton, who drowned in Boston Harbor in1630/1(e.g.3,4) and Robert Harrington, husband of Joan Jentilman and father of Robert Harrington of Watertown(e.g.5). These linkages are not considered likely (e.g. 6). Theimmigration of someone so prominent as a son or grandson of the Godson ofQueen Elizabeth (2) would have been noted (6) by contemporary sources. The immigration of thesefamilies were not (6). There is a hearsay claim (7) that three sons ofJohn Harington of Kelston, usually given as John, Henry andEdward,immigrated to the New World. If there is any truth to that story, one of them was NOT his son John Harington,who married Dionesse Leigh and stayed in England (7). "The Royal Descents of 500 Immigrants to the AmericanColonies or the United States" Line 331-332 General Notes for Child John Harrington A John Harrington, husband of Ann or Elizabeth Clinton, who drowned inBoston Harbor in 1630/1 is sometimes claimed to be son of Sir JohnHarington of Kelston (e.g. 1,2). This is not considered likely (e.g. 3)and this link is not considered sound. The immigration of someone so prominent as a son ofthe Godson of Queen Elizabeth (4) would have likely been noted (3) bycontemporary sources. The immigration of this family was not.Furthermore, while John Harington of Kelston did have a son John, this son John married Dionysia Leigh andremained in England (5). Claims have been made for four children in this family (e.g.1,2), thesebeing, Benjamin Herendeen of Providence, Robert Harrington of Watertownand Abraham and Rebecca Errington of Cambridge and Charlestown. Thelatter three of these have clearly been shown to be children in different families (3.6). If this individual indeed existed, he appears to have immigrated with asingle surviving child, Benjamin of Providence, and possibly a wife, whoif she hadn't died prior to his immigration, must have died so soon afterhis supposed drowning as to not appear in any meaningful way in written records onthis side of the Atlantic. Most of what is claimed for Ann ClintonHarrington is due to confusion with widow Ann Liddell Errington, from anentirely different family, who is the mother of the Abraham and Rebecca noted above (6).
