Hank inlisted in the army March 29, 1943 in Chicago, Ill and wasdischarged  Dec 31, 1945 He fought in the battles of Bismarck-Archipelagom New Guinea  and Southern Plilippines.  He was award 3 Bronze Stars, Purple heart,  Good Conduct medal.  He was a surgical technician.  He fathered his first  son in the Phillipines during this time.
