Franklin published by Heritage House, 3815 South Post Oak Road, P. O. Box 39128, Indianapolis, In. 46239, 1985. Apparently will da ted Sept 1790 and recorded Will Book A p. 141 in July 1795. Suspect was arou nd date of his death. History of Woodford County by Wm. E. Railey, Woodford Im provement League, Versailles, Ky. 1968 relates that Harrison Harris, of Virg inia, emigrated from Goochland County about 1768, and settled on about 1500 acres surrounding MT. Vernon church in Woodford County, Ky. He and several of his family members are buried there where in 1968 Monette Wiglesworth live d at a place known as Utterback place. There is no evidence that Harrison Harr is served in the Revolutionary War although his son, Nathaniel, did. However , Harrison Harris did provide one beef "for publick use" on 2 April 1781, one beef "for publick use' on 21 July 1781. Receipts for both are in the rev. Wa r Claims in the Virginai Archives. On 19 Apr 1781 he was allowed claims for f urnishing 687 1/2 pounds of beef and 15 1/2 bushelsof wheat. Virginia State L ibrary Public Service Claims of Goochland Court Booklet page 1. This does not qualify any descendens for membership in the DAR or SAR. Harrison Harris di d not emigrate to Ky until about 1789. In November of 1788 in Goochland Co., Va, he was appointed with others to appraise the estate of Patrick Roach, dec . On June 1789 he appears on the Fayette Co., Ky tax list. This narrows his move to Ky between November 1788 and June 9f 1789. The name Harris is of Wel sh origin which literally means "son of Harry". The postmaster of MerthyrTyd vil in Wales writes that the Harris family in that country is legion. The en tries into this record was also used by John H. Field, son of Col. Thomas M. Field and Susan Mary Higbee as indicated in the aforementioned article. Bill ie Hardy, great granddaughter to James S. Harris, states after years of resea rch it may be extremely difficult to say who is really the father of Harrison H. Harris. There is ample evidence to show he was related to Lewis Harris a nd Giles Harris as related to dealings in land and witnesses as to deeds. Sh e has been to Goochland County, Louisa and Hanover Counties and reviewed Rec ords and state archives in her research. Billie relates a story that during th e War of 1812 records of either Louisa or Hanover were loaded on a cart to ke ep them from being destroyed by the invading British. The cart left town and the records have not been seen since that time. The entries preceding this point (Harrison Harris) has been provided by various persons in their resea rch. As to the origin of the Harris name, it is believed to be as indicated - England, Wales, Scotland and possible connected to the French name de Beaug ency. One research source starts the name connection in France with de Bea ugency, to Scotland de Heris, de Heriez, then into England as Harris. As pre viously indicated the Harris name is legion in Wales. This information will be very difficult to trace as records are either non existent or very sketchy .
