He was probably in cha rge of Harrison Harris' estate. He may have stayed in Virginia to care for J ohn Howard who was alone at that time. Nathaniel and John evidently were ver y close. Other notes: Member of the Goochland County Militia in Capt. Massie' s company Revolutionary War. Appointed Ensign 18 August 1777, oath taken 17 O ct 1777, appointed 2nd Lt. 20 Apr 1778, oath 17 May 1779. Apparently did n ot move to Kentucky until after his father's death.

REFN: 786 John H. Harris was not listed as a child of Nathanel Harris and Mary Howard in the article History of Woodford County, Ky. by Willaim E. Riley. In notes from Anthony Haden article Sect 5 Turner Richardson Haden Chapter II I apears a son name Turner and a son Overeton mentioned as a Lt. in the Confe derate Army John H. Harris' middle name, according to thoughts of Billie Hard y , is Howard since his mother's maiden name was Howard. The date of marriag e of his father, Nathaniel, was 1782 when he was 17 years of age. The date o f birth was taken from the notes kept by Rev. William Douglas from 1750 to 17 97 and transcribed and edited by W. Mac Jones, who was a descendent of the Re v William Douglas. WMJ would not allow anyone to review or copy the handwritt en reocord of Rev. William Douglas. Death date and age of 82 from Columbia S tatesman issue of 20 May 1859. Birth place from census. He bought land in Boo ne County 10 December 1828. Children proved by Boone Co., Mo. DBN p. 502 and DBC p 202. There are papers of Lavenia Harris Noyer, gr dau of John H. and N ancy but I do not have a copy. Scott County, Ky. Bk B p 254. Dec 4 1815 John H. Harris appointed guardian of Nancy Hayden. Deed of December 4, 1829, Deed Book C p. 202 names children James, lewis, Martha, John and Rebecca in conve yance to Joel Hayden. John was 34 when he married Nancy, age 14. John was a f armer and owned land 3 miles SE of Columbia, 160 acres, Sect 9, Township 48, Range 12 bought from Joel Turnham. Two of his sons served in the Civil War - s ide of the South. Supposedly, three sons went west to California, Oregon and W ashington state. Two sons, Nathaniel W. Harris and James S. Harris went to T exas after the war. Notes on Nancy. Daughter of Turner Richardson Haden an d Rebecca Cave Hayden was born around 1800. She married in Kentucky prior to 1817 to John H. Harris. Prior to 1834 they moved to Missouri and in 1850 were in Boone County, Mo. Later Nancy moved to Oregon and from there to Washingto n Territory where in 1877 she was living with her son, Woodson Harris. Nancy lived to be 97 years old. Source Haden document. She and John were Baptist and later Church of Christ.

REFN: 28 It is recorded in Go ode family Bible, "Aunt Birte" Goode as date of death of N. W. Harris was Nov ember 19, 1908. Not known if W. stands for William or Walter. But she indic ated that he is the same person as recorded in the Panola County Census of 18 70 and 1880 as N. W. Harris. His place of birth in the 1870 and 1880 census records-Missouri and Kentucky. The census 1880 has N. W. Harris' father bo rn in Virginia, name and place unknown. Place of birth the mother of N. W. H arris shown to be Kentucky. This information was provided by Walter L. Harri s and Billie Hardy - Supposedly, Nathaniel Harris and his brother James S. w as drafted into the Union Army but went with the Confederacy. After the war neither could buy land in their name since they supported the South. Both ha d to leave Missouri since it was not the place for southern sympathizers to b e after the war. Former Confederate soldiers had land bought in their wife 's name. This may be the essence of the story we were told as children one of our ancestors had to leave Oklahoma on a fast horse under the cover of dar kness because he killed a man. This now makes sense. The state of Oklahoma wa s probably a ruse to avoid possible discovery. Also, this will probably exp lain why on different census reports their is different information. After a ll, it was a government agent asking the questions. In 1883 reported he was li ving in Fair Play, Panola County, Texas and had 5 children listed infra.
