General Notes (Wife)
HANNAH HATCH3, daughter of Samuel Hatch of Scituate, b y H i s wife Mary2 Doty (Edward1), was born on 15 or 16* Fe brua ry , 1681/2, and was married three times. She married, first, Japhet Turner, of Scituate, but the d a t e of the marriage has not been found. Japhet Turner di e d be fore 23; January, 1710/11, when his inventory was ta ke n, an d left four children: Hannah, who married Willia m Tho mas; J aphet, who married Elizabeth Morse; Israel, wh o marr ied Abi gail Holmes; Elizabeth, who married John Pra tt. Hannah (Hatch3) Turner married, second, on 9 July, 1719 , E b enezer Tinkham4 (Ebenezer3, Mary2 Brown, Peter1), o f Midd le borough, Mass., as his second wife. Ebenezer Tink ham4 di e d before 7 November, 1726, when Shubael Tinkham4 , his bro th er, was appointed administrator. Hannah (Hatch3) (Turner) Tinkham married, third, on 23 De c e mber, 1729, Capt. Ichabod Tupper, of Middleborough, wh o d ie d in 1748, leaving children by a former wife. Hannah (Hatch3) (Turner) (Tinkham) Tupper, widow of Cap t . I chabod Tupper, died 13 April, 1771, in her 91st year , a ccor ding to the record on her gravestone in the Nemask et C ermet ery, at Middleborough. * The day of the month is doubtful, as one date was writ t e n over the other. 98Hannah Hatch's Three Husbands No record of the marriage of Hannah Hatch3 to Japhet Tur n e r has been found, and she was called Hannah Tinkham, i n h e r father's will, made 13 June, 1728; but the widow Ha nna h T upper, in her own will, dated 26 August, 1766, ment ion s "m y daughter Elizabeth Pratt", also "my ten grandson s" a nd "m y fifteen grandaughters", naming each of them. A s the se twe nty-five grandchildren of widow Hannah Tuppe r can b e prove d to Have been the children of Japhet and H annah Tu rner's f our children, Hannah Thomas, Japhet Turne r, Israe l Turner a nd Elizabeth Pratt, it is evident tha t the firs t Japhet Tur ner's widow was the Hannah Turner w ho marrie d Ebenezer Tink ham and Capt. Ichabod Tupper. Ebenezer Tinkham4 (Ebenezer3, Mary2 Brown, Peter1) wa s t h e only Tinkham who had a wife Hannah in 1728, when Sa mue l H atch mentioned a daughter Hannah Tinkham in his wil l, a nd w e Have shown that Ebenezer married, for his secon d wif e, Ja phet Turner's widow Hannah. Moreover the wido w Hanna h Tuppe r's age at death agrees closely with the bi rth dat e of Hann ah Hatch3. It is evident, therefore, tha t Samue l Hatch's da ughter Hannah and the widow Hannah Tup per wer e one and th e same person. We here present exhaustive abstracts of all records, an d o r iginal documents in the files, found in the Plymout h Coun ty , Mass., Registry of Probate, relating to the est ates o f Ja phet Turner, Ichabod Tupper and widow Hannah Tu pper. These abstracts have been made at the expense of Mrs . A . V . Heely, of Plainfield, N. J., who is a descendan t of H anna h Turner5 (Japhet4, Hannah Hatch3, Mary2 Doty , Edward1 ), wh o married James Le Baron. The proper reference, to the record, or the original docu m e nt in the files, is noted with each abstract. A descendant of Pilgrim Edward Doty.
