7 June 1637 there was granted to him "an island cal l e d t h e Old Island,alias Hatches Islan d , lying on th e S ou th-W es t side of the North River,containing about 2 0 ac res ." T hi s proper t y was afterwards sold toJosep h Tild en , in 164 9 ; 5 March 1638/39, he was appointed Su rveyo r o f Highways.
27 Sept 1642, was one of a commitee for Scituate, to p r o v i de forces forthe war against th e I ndians. 16 Oc t 16 4 3 , h e was elected by his townsmen to be their Lieu tenan t , " ForT rayning their me n i n the art of war". H e als o h ad a n ear lierappointment in 1638, with Willia m Vassal l, f o r t h e sa me purpose.
5 March 1643/1644, he brought a suit against his ser v a n t , Hercules, anAfrican-American, a s t o whether h e sh ou l d s erve him six or seven years.The court decide d si x ye a r as e xtent o f se rvice, and then to be freeJ uly 3 rd ne xt.
In 1651, he sold lands to Serg't Humphrey Johnson.
Mr. Hatch was a member of the First Church till its di v i s i on, one part under Rev. Mr. Lothro p , removing t o Ba rn st ab le, and the other remainingin Scituate, unde r th e pas tor at e of Mr. C ha uncey, whose settlement too kplac e in 16 41 . I n 1643, Mr. Hatch was chosen ruling E lde r o f th eS eco nd Ch urch, which office he retained ti ll h is decease.
The will was 3rd of June 1652. Wife Jane; daughter J a n e L o vell; daughterAnn Torry; grandchi l d James Torr y ; So ns W al ter Hatch and William Hatch.
Mr. Hatch died 6 Nov 1651. Married in England Jan e Y o u n g who marriedfor her second husban d , Elder Thom as K in g , 3 1 March 1553, and she diedthe same year Octob er 8t h . E lde r King's f ir st wife, Sarah, died 1652;an d aft e r the d ecea se of Jane, he married 3rd - Ann. He w as c h os e n tosu ccee d Elder Hatch in that office, in th e Sec ond C hurch. 7 June 1637 there was granted to him "an island cal l e d t h e Old Island,alias Hatches Islan d , lying on th e S ou th-W es t side of the North River,containing about 2 0 ac res ." T hi s proper t y was afterwards sold toJosep h Tild en , in 164 9 ; 5 March 1638/39, he was appointed Su rveyo r o f Highways.
27 Sept 1642, was one of a commitee for Scituate, to p r o v i de forces forthe war against th e I ndians. 16 Oc t 16 4 3 , h e was elected by his townsmen to be their Lieu tenan t , " ForT rayning their me n i n the art of war". H e als o h ad a n ear lierappointment in 1638, with Willia m Vassal l, f o r t h e sa me purpose.
5 March 1643/1644, he brought a suit against his ser v a n t , Hercules, anAfrican-American, a s t o whether h e sh ou l d s erve him six or seven years.The court decide d si x ye a r as e xtent o f se rvice, and then to be freeJ uly 3 rd ne xt.
In 1651, he sold lands to Serg't Humphrey Johnson.
Mr. Hatch was a member of the First Church till its di v i s i on, one part under Rev. Mr. Lothro p , removing t o Ba rn st ab le, and the other remainingin Scituate, unde r th e pas tor at e of Mr. C ha uncey, whose settlement too kplac e in 16 41 . I n 1643, Mr. Hatch was chosen ruling E lde r o f th eS eco nd Ch urch, which office he retained ti ll h is decease.
The will was 3rd of June 1652. Wife Jane; daughter J a n e L o vell; daughterAnn Torry; grandchi l d James Torr y ; So ns W al ter Hatch and William Hatch.
Mr. Hatch died 6 Nov 1651. Married in England Jan e Y o u n g who marriedfor her second husban d , Elder Thom as K in g , 3 1 March 1553, and she diedthe same year Octob er 8t h . E lde r King's f ir st wife, Sarah, died 1652;an d aft e r the d ecea se of Jane, he married 3rd - Ann. He w as c h os e n tosu ccee d Elder Hatch in that office, in th e Sec ond C hurch. Elder William Hatch settled in Kent street 1634. Hi s h o u s e lot was thefirst south of Green f ield lane. H e w a s t h e first ruling elder of thesecond Church, 1643 . Walter, his son, bor arm s 164 3, when h e w as, o f course,over sixtee n yea rs o f age . Jeremiah (son of Elder William), settled near his br o t h e r Walter, withwhom he was engage d i n ship buildi n g f o r ma ny years. He was often adeputy to Colony Coou r t , a su rveyo r, sele ctma n, and in short a man ofgrea t u se fulness . H e married Mary, daughter of John Hewes , " t h e Welshman ," an d had fourteeen children born fro m 16 5 8 to 1678. Hi s sonsJ eremiah, John, Is rael , Josep h, Th om as and James .
