The Civil War records of Orrin S. Redfield were obtained from the National Archives on February 2, 1998. It shows he actually served about six months, an was discharged for "first taken sick at Camp Jenkins near (Somsville?) Kentucky with diarrhea. His duty was musician in the Regimental Band of the 21st Regiment, Ohio Volunteers." Refer to hard copy documents for further information.

Interesting is the fact that while Orrin's two brothers and cousin (William) have rather thorough biographical listings in two Allen county historical books Orrin is not noted in either. (Cutler's "History of KS" and "History of Humboldt"). He is listed in the 1901/02 Humboldt City Directory as living at 10th Street and New York Avenue, Humboldt.
