Notes for SIR HENRY ALEXANDER WEBB: http://jimwebb.rootsweb.com/index.htm#TOC
He it was who might be said to have established the family for all future time, since to hi m "for valiant deeds of his father", Sir John Alexander, of Oldstock, "who was an officer und er Kings Henry VII and VIII", the present generally accepted emblem, or coat of arms, was gra nted, June 17, 1577. This heraldic ensignia of rank in the New Nobility, that of the thegus , owe their origin in personal service to the prince then reigning. The New Nobility was acco rdingly one of office due to meritorious service. The device of hereditery coat of armour , a growth of the twelveth century, did much to define and mark out the noble class throughou t Europe. When once acquired by grant of the Sovereign, it went on from generation to generat ion. They who possessed the right of coat of armour formed the class of nobility or gentry. H e was granted the WEBB coat of arms in 1577. He married Grace Arden, sister of Robert Arden . Mary Webb was Henry's sister (as well as Shakespeare's grandmother) and she married Rober t Arden, brother of Grace.
Sir Henry was usher in the Privy Council of Catherine Parr, Queen Regent of Britian in the 16 th century. Catherine Parr, 6th Queen of Henry VIII of England, tactful, kindly woman to whos e influence her stepchildren, the future sovereigns Edward VI, Mary I and Elizabeth I owed mu ch. Among the few existing documents connected with the regency of Catherine Parr was one whi le Henry VIII was conducting the siege of Boulogne in 1544 AD. There is in the Crotonain Coll ections a letter to her council headed:
Katherine, Queen Regent, K.P. in favor of her trusty and well beloved servant, Henry Webb, ge ntleman, usher of her Privy Chamber." The letter is in regard to some grants and privileges t o Henry Webb, but which have not been fulfilled. It concludes "we most heartily desire and pr ay you to be favorable to him at this our earnest request. Given under my Hand and Signet, a t my Lord, the King's Majesty's Honor of Hampton Court, the 23d of July and the 36th of his H ighness most noble Reign."

John Shakespeare was a tanner and glovemaker. He was an alderman of Stratford for years. He a lso served a term as high bailiff, or mayor. Toward the end of his life John Shakespeare los t most of his money. When he died in 1601, he left William only a little real estate.
"John Shakespeare was a fairly prosperous glovemaker and trader in wool, hides and grain. H e owned at least five houses in Stratford and held various offices in the town. He was mayo r when his son Wiliam was four years old. (William) Shakespeare's mother was Mary Arden, th e daughter of a landowner living near Stratford."

Facts on the Shakespeare, Arden and Webb families were taken from "William Shakespeare: A Bio graphy" by A. L. Rowse 1963.
This biography confirms that the Arden family was a well known and large family in Wilmcote a nd that John Shakespeare was a "ner-do-well" who was oftened fined for not showing up for doi ng his duty as baliff or alderman, or mayor, and who vouched for other people's debts as wel l as accumulating his own and so lost all his money and standing in the community. Even whe n William began to make money, debt plagued his father for the rest of his life. John Shakesp eare could not read or write, but had aspirations to be a nobleman and applied to the Herald' s College for a grant of a Coat of Arms. This grant was not accepted & put through until aft er John's death, when William pursued the matter. The Coat and crest were granted on Octobe r 20, 1596

Notes for WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE: GEDCOM provided by Jay S. Webb <webb2705@knox.mindspring.com>
William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, in 1564. This was the sixth yea r of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. He was christened on April 26 of that year. The day of h is birth is unknown. It has long been celebrated on April 23, the feast of St. George.
By 1592 Shakespeare was in London and was already recognized as an actor and playwright. H e was then 28 years old. In that year Robert Greene, a playwright, accused him of borrowing f rom the plays of others.
Between 1592 and 1594, plague kept the London theaters closed most of the time. During thes e years Shakespeare wrote his earliest sonnets and two long narrative poems, 'Venus and Adoni s' and 'The Rape of Lucrece'. Both were printed by Richard Field, a boyhood friend from Strat ford. They were well received and helped establish him as a poet.
Queen Elizabeth I died in 1603. King James I followed her to the throne. Shakespeare's thea trical company was taken under the king's patronage and called the King's Company. Shakespear e and the other actors were made officers of the royal household.
Shakespeare retired from his theater work in 1610 and returned to Stratford. On Apri l 23, 1616, Shakespeare died at the age of 52. This date is according to the Old Style, or Ju lian, calendar of his time. The New Style, or Gregorian, calendar date is May 3, 1616 He wa s buried in the chancel of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Stratford.
In 1607, when he was 43, he may have suffered a serious physical breakdown. In the same yea r his older daughter Susanna married John Hall, a doctor. The next year Shakespeare's first g randchild, Elizabeth, was born. Also in 1607 his brother Edmund, also a London actor, died a t the age of 27.
********** From World Book Encyclopedia, (1972 ed.) article on William Shakespeare:
" William was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, a fairly important English market town about 80 mi les northwest of London, in the year 1564. The registers of Holy Trinity, the parish church i n which Shakespeare was buried 52 years later, record his baptism on April 26, 1564 and it i s generally thought that he was born on April 23, since babies were sometimes baptized on th e third day. But there is NO proof of the actual date of his birth.
There is no definite record of Shakespeare until November 27, 1582. On that date, a license w as issued for his marriage to Anne Hathaway, the daughter of a farmer who lived about a hal f mile west of Stratford at Shottery. At the time, William was eighteen and Anne twenty-six.
The only other definite records of William's early life in Stratford are those of the b aptism of his children, Sussanna on May 26, 1583 and the twins Hamnet and Judith on Feb. 2, 1 585. When or why he left Stratford is not definitely known.
.... Shakespeare was at Stratford during his last illness. On March 25, 1616 he called his l awyer, Francis Collins, to revise his will. In it, he remembered various friends, including h is old fellow actors of the King's Men in London, John Heminges, Henry Condell, and Richard B urbage, and his Stratford neighbors such as Hamnet Sadler and John Nashe. As was customary a t the time, he tried to keep most of his property together to form an estate for his direct d escendants. In his case, they were the children of his two daughters. Again, like many Englis hmen of the day, he liked to think that his property would serve his descendants for generati ons. But in this, he failed, for all his grandchildren died childless and his last direct des cendant died in 1670.
Shakespeare himself died at the age of 52, on April 23, 1616. As a prominent citize n of the town, he was buried inside the chancel of Holy Trinity Church. On the flat stone ove r his grave were carved the lines sometimes described as his epitaph, but which are nothing o f the kind ("Good Frend for Jesus Sake Forebeare, To digg the dust encloased heare, Blessed b e ye man that spares thes stones, and curst be he that moves my bones.) They are simply a dev ise to prevent the disturbing of the grave. It is easy to understand that in English churches , where people were buried under the floor of the church year after year for centuries, the s pace was sooner or later filled. When it was, the sexton removed the bones of those who had l ong since been forgotten and tossed them unceremoniously into the charnel house where dead bo dies and bones were kept. (The one at Stratford opened off the north side of the chancel, onl y a few feet from Shakespeare's grave.) New burials were then made in the space thus made av ailable. Evidently, Shakespeare, like others, was distressed by this practice, for the line s carved on his gravestone are nicely designed to keep any superstitious sexton from disturbi ng the grave. "

General Notes for Child James Henry Ozment Jr.
[mytree.FTW]
"James enlisted as a Private in the Company commanded by Capt. Henry L. Douglas of Tennessee in the 1st Regiment of Volunteers. The Regiment was commanded by General Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812 against Great Britain. He was mustered into service at Nashville, Tennessee on or about December 1812 , for six months, and was honorably discharged at or near Colbert's Ferry, Tennessee River on the last day of April 1815. He served under Capt. Charles Wade in the Tennessee Volunteers from Nov 13, 1814 to May 13, 1815. He was one of the Tennessee and Kentucky riflemen that on January 8, 1815, so decimated the ranks of the veteren British troops as to put them to route. Arthur Jolly owns the sword that James H. Ozment carried in that memorable battle.
James applied for Bounty Land through his military service in the War of 1812 in Ashley County, Arkansas on January 27, 1851. From all records available, this land was never granted to him."
From Lynn White (Cousin of Lamar White)
Before Bradley County was formed, James had purchased, from the U. S. Government, land that is now in the town of Warren. He moved to the Saline River, on the East Bank, in Section 1, T, 15S, R9W, to what is today called "Gee's Landing". This was in 1841. His son-in-law, Benjamin Franklin, owned the land joining him on the north.
Both James and Ben were located there in the fall of 1841 when the Government surveyed the land and their fields are marked on the Government Land Office Plat. Alfred joined him there sometime before 1850, then in 1854 he purchased his farm located where the Ozment Cemetery is located today. Alfred never lived at Ozment Bluff and James H. Ozment, Jr. never owned land there, his sons did however.
