On his last birthday hewas 70 years old, and killed a deer dead in its tracks the first shot,at a distance of 75 or 80 yards. A week or two since, a partyconsisting of County Commissioner Looper, Hon E H Bates, Dr. W T Fieldand Mr Joseph Looper went deer hunting in the mountains. The groundhunted on was in the vicinity of Douthit's Gap. All the deer soon,four in number, were killed, and not a shot missed. 1878: Dec 25: I Joseph Looper, Sr, being in good health and of soundand disposing mind and memory, etc. First pay my just and honestdebts. I direct my beloved wife Sarah Looper have one hundred acresof land, including the house and buildings where I now live, all thehousehold and kitchen furniture she may want during her natural lifeor widowhood. I direct my admr to appoint five freeholders to dividemy land into seven equal lots, also my personal property lotted by thesame freeholders. With each heir making their choice and paying intothe estate if the lot is above their equal share. Pay untoElviraFreeman, Sarah A Singleton, Mary Hendrix, Martha Edens andMatildaChastain one hundred dollars before the division to make themequal with the one who has had rent free land. Then I direct that theremainder be equally divided between each and every of my heirs asnamed below. 1894 Mrs Sallie Looper, the wife of Mr Joe Looper fell backwardsfroma chair on the 16th of March, and had the misfortune to breakherthigh. She was attended by Dr J J Morgan. There is little hope ofherbeing able to walk again as she is upwards of eighty years.(PickensSentinel 4/5/1894)
1894 Mrs. Joseph Looper of the Cross Roads Section died the 11April.She was over 86 years old and leaves a husband and children.Sheraised 16 children. Mr. Joseph Looper, Jr. had an accident whilereturning home with a coffin for his mother (Easley Democrat- 13April1894)

1927: Easley or Greenville newspaper clipping quotes Wm FrankLooper's brother John: Wm Frank Looper was wounded (probably July 31,1864) at Chambersburg, PA, when the town was burned. He was capturedby the Yankees, cared for by a local farmer who later drove himaround the US lines and delivered him to the CSA. He was sent tohospital at Lynchburg, VA, where he died on Oct 30, the day after hiswife arrived to see him. She returned the body to SC for burial.
