In 1797 the Thorp family bought the estate & farms at Chippenham. The Farm Books are in the Cambridgeshire Record Office for about 1800-1830. These show that Thomas was a ploughman using Boxer the stallion as a plough horse and paid 1 shilling & 6 pence per day. In 1821 he was instructing "boy Hobbs" (his son James) on the plough. James was paid 8 pence per day.

The 1851 Census shows William and his wife Elizabeth (Matthews) living at High Street Dullingham Cambs. Sons John, Henry, Alfred & George were all still at home and working with their father as agricultural labourers. This William is probably the one convicted of running away and leaving his family Q/S 012 page 292 Epiphany 1815. and sentenced to two months hard labour as a rogue and a vagabond.

The 1871 Census shows John, a labourer, who never married, living with his brother Henry, both of whom are agricultural labourers. His mother Elizabeth (Matthews) age 81 described as a pauper was living with them together with two nephews James age 15 a tailor's porter and William age 6 a scholar.
