John M. Snyder, 91, a resident of rural Bryant, died early Saturday at the County Hospital following a brief illness.
He was a retired Jackson Township farmer.
A 1929 graduate of Poling High School, he attended Indiana University for one year. He was a former Jackson Township Trustee for eight years, Republican Party Precinct Committeeman for many years, a member of the Farm Bureau, National Flying Farmers Association, and charter member of the Indiana Chapter of the Flying Farmers Association.
Born Dec. 22, 1911, in Jackson Township, he was the son of Marshal and Fay (Hammitt) Snyder. He was married in 1934 to Jeanette J. Houser, who died in 1991.
Surviving are two sons, Larry D. and Terry J. Snyder, both of rural Bryant; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Marty Wright officiating. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery west of Bryant.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until time of services Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the Gravel Hill Cemetery Endowment Fund.

Merrill was the victim of a tragic accident during birth. During a difficult delivery with labor extending to about 24 hours, the physician, Dr. Henchman (?), attempted to force the delivery with foreceps. However, the foreceps slipped. Massive bruising of the brain resulted in hundreds or thousands of blood clots in the brain, and massive brain damage.
As a result of this, vision appeared to be limited to the ability to discern light from dark, but not to recognize faces or shapes. Speech was limited to generating only the most basic sounds. Motor control was almost completely non-existant.
Merrill remained at home in the care of his mother until about 1955 or 1956. The demands of his constant care, and the difficulties as he grew larger, finally required that he be moved to an institutional facility with the resources to provide the necessary continuing care. He moved to the Luther Home of Mercy in Williston, OH, where he remained until his death. 6
