From the correspondence of Linda J. Dolby (ljdolby@airmail.net): "His will mentions his second wife, Elizabeth. John's will disposed of property inventoried at 78 pounds, 13 shillings, on January 2, 1659/60."

John's will: "Know all men by these presents, I, John Parmely, of Newhaven, being very sicke in body but prfect in minde, doe Institutue and Ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following I doe give and bequeathe to my beloued wife Elizabeth Parmely my house-lott and all my whole Estate for her to enjoy and possess without modestation during the whole time of her life. And after her decease I doe give and bequeath half of my house and lott to my sonne, John Parmile of Guilford, the other half, one quarter to my Grandchild Nathaniel Parmile, the sonne of John Parmile of Guilford, And the other quarter part I give to my wife to dispose to her sonne, Stephen, if she see cause and for those goods which shall be left at the dease my will is that my daughter Hannah Johnson the wife of John Johnson of Newhaven, and her dauter Ellen Allen ye wife of John Allen of Newhaven, should have ye greater part equally divided betwixt them and what doth remain I doe leave to her discretion to dispose as she pleaseth."

Dolby (ljdolby@airmail.net): John Parmelee III had sailed from London April 13, 1635, aboard the "Elizabeth and Ann" (Roger Cooper, master) into the Bay Colony of Boston. John first lived in New Haven, but then moved to Guilford with his father in 1639. He was a planter and the Guilford Village sextant. John's 1.5 acre homesite was on the east side of Crooked Lane, the 4th lot north of Back Lane, just around the corner from his father. Through his second wife, he obtained Plaine's home lot and four and a half acres of marsh land. In a November 7, 1648, lawsuit filed by planter Thomas Jones against John, Richard Bristow, and Goodwife Bushnell, Jones sought damages after their hogs had rooted through his corn crop. The outcome of the case is not known. John took the oath of freeman in Guilford on February 14, 1649, and became the drummer of the town train band.[Downing.ged]
